The housing market of Millrise was annexed to the city of Calgary in 1961. It was left largely untouched until 1979, when it was integrated with the Area Structure Plan that had intentions to develop a serene, beautiful suburban residential area and Millrise real estate development began in 1982.

With a population of 6,500 residents, Millrise has grown quickly in its brief 30-year history. It was first conceived as a family-friendly community, so much of the real estate development focused on building single-family detached homes. In more recent times, some terraced housing and a number of apartment buildings have popped up, but the majority of the Millrise homes are still detached dwellings. Of the 6,500 residents in the community, about 33% are between 35 and 54.

Millrise sits just to the south of Fish Creek Provincial Park. It is bordered to the south by Shawnessy Boulevard and travels up as far as 146 Avenue. Its western border is James McKevitt Road and to the east is Macleod Trail.

The neighbourhood is ideal if you need to travel into the city for work. In addition to being connected to a number of major transportation routes, Millrise is served by the Fish Creek-Lacombe C-Train station.

If you love to shop, the nearby Shawnessy shopping centre and the Southcentre Mall are both popular malls nearby. Additionally, the huge Chinook Mall is only a short drive away. For outdoor enthusiasts, the wonderful Fish Creek Park is just a short distance outside the area boundary, while the Millcrest Park is always popular with families. Millrise has plenty of parks, amenities and natural scenery throughout the community, and home buyers in Millside can always find something fun to do.

The Millrise Community Association provides a variety of recreation and volunteer opportunities.

There are plenty of education choices for schoolchildren in Millrise. Parents purchasing a home in Millrise can choose from a number of schools in close proximity to the area, including Our Lady of Peace Elementary and Junior High School, Janet Johnstone Elementary School, Father Doucet School and Centennial High School.
