The area now known as Fairview was annexed to the city in 1956. Three years later, in 1959, the neighbourhood was established. At the time, Calgary was undergoing a thorough urbanization program and Fairview benefited from this with prompt real estate development in the area. Fairview is generally considered as two separate halves. The western half is the residential community where residents’ homes are located, while the eastern half is a commercial industrial park offering many jobs to its residents.

The Fairview housing market has plenty going for it, and that includes the types of homes for sale in the area. Although there are a number of impressive apartments and condominiums, and some townhouses, the majority of Fairview homes are single family detached properties and semi-detached homes. These large homes are ideal for people with growing families since many of these spacious properties come with large yards. Just over a quarter of the homes in Fairview are rented with the remainder being owner occupied.

Fairview homes for sale are well-serviced by public transportation with the LRT being the most popular method. The Chinook Centre is only a stone’s throw away and is particularly popular amongst residents.

The Fairview Community Association strives to instill pride amongst residents, and regularly organizes events and programs to encourage residents to engage with the community. These include craft sales, garage sales, sponsored tours and festivals.

At the same time, there are a number of permanent recreational facilities available for sports and outdoor enthusiasts, with many nearby family-friendly parks and walkways. Home buyers love Fairview and feel it is one of the best communities to raise a family in southeast Calgary.

Families buying a home in Fairview will find a number of schools in the area that serve the community and while some parents choose schools in neighbouring areas, the schools in Fairview have an excellent reputation. They include Fairview Bilingual Elementary School and Fairview Junior High School. Additionally, the West Island College is a private schooling option for residents.
