Established in 1998, the Royal Oak real estate market was annexed from Rocky View’s municipal district to the City of Calgary in 1989. Development in this area began in 1995.

About a kilometre west of Stoney Trail, Royal Oak is located east of Rocky Ridge Road and north of Crowchild Trail. A road with direct access to Stoney Trail, which connects Royal Oak to the Trans-Canada Highway located west of the Canada Olympic Park, will soon be available.

Townhouses, single-family homes, and low- and mid-rise condominium units in Royal Oak have been designed in a range of various styles for sale. Royal Oak Calgary homes for sale by Sterling, Jayman, Avi, Stepper, Cedarglen and Royal Oak Estates set atop high ridges make the community an interesting place to live.

Quick access to LRT services, the Royal Oak Shopping Centre, and a toboggan hill near Royal Oak School are only some of the amenities enjoyed by Royal Oak home owners. Revy and Safeway stores, auto dealers, restaurants, and Crowfoot Towne Centre just off Nose Hill Drive are a few of the nearby shopping, dining, and entertainment venues for the residents. When the community’s separate school east of Rocky Ridge Road is completed there will be a soccer field and two ball diamonds within the community. In the meantime, residents continue to enjoy a jungle gym facility, a beach volleyball court, a pond with paddle boats and a 3,000-square foot clubhouse.

The houses in Royal Oak are all on crescents and cul-de-sacs off Rocky Ridge Way, which is the main collector route. Royal Oak is renowned for its environmentally-sensitive, well-preserved wet ponds placed along pathways and houses, made possible by the carefully-planned landscape in the area. The RRRO Community Association offers sports activities as well as dance classes. The association also holds regular casino fundraising activities.

Schools in the area are another reason that Royal Oak real estate is always in demand and they include Belvedere-Parkway Elementary, Simon Fraser Junior High and Bowness Senior High Schools. In September 2010, the Calgary Board of Education opened Royal Oak Elementary School to accommodate the students in kindergarten to grade 4 that live in Royal Oak and Rocky Ridge.
