Before the real estate market now known as Ranchlands was developed, it was a hunting ground for aboriginals and grazing land for European settlers. The area was annexed by Calgary in 1961 and established as a community in 1977. To commemorate its historical background, the park in Ranchlands features a glacial rubbing stone which geologists call an “erratic.”

The homes for sale in Ranchlands are know for their many beautiful trees, and the properties are surrounded by acres of wide open green space. Most homes are single-family detached houses and they were built with a rustic concept with a lot of earth tones. With the increasing interest in housing in the area, townhomes and condo units are also growing in number to accommodate new and future residents. Homeowners in Ranchlands enjoy spectacular views of the mountains as well as the downtown areas of Calgary.

Just because it has a name like Ranchlands doesn’t mean that buyers of Ranchlands homes for sale cannot enjoy modern urban amenities. In fact, avid shoppers have more than enough stores and shops to cover their needs. Right next to the neighbourhood is Crowfoot Crossing and with its more than 240 shops and stores, it is one of the largest outdoor malls in Calgary. This is where residents can find a huge number of entertainment, dining, and shopping options.

Ranchlands home owners also have several choices when they want to go to a park to relax. There is the 12-acre Ranchlands Community Park, as well as the renowned Nose Hill Park with its many athletic and recreation facilities. There are other smaller parks scattered throughout the community as well. Here you’ll also find playgrounds, an outdoor skating rink, sports fields, and tennis courts. If you have a dog, you may want to consider Ranchlands since there is an amazing off-leash park in the area. Residents also enjoy activities sponsored by the Ranchlands Community Association.

The Crowfoot YMCA and the Crowfoot Arena are nearby and an added benefit to the Ranchlands housing market. And for those that don’t want to drive there’s a new Crowfoot C-Train Station, which offers convenient access to the University of Calgary, SAIT, and the downtown core.
