The Highwood real estate market owes its existence to the postwar construction and development boom in Calgary. It was established in 1954 and construction in the area has remained steady since then. Today, it is home to a little over 2,000 residents.

Its borders are defined by McKnight Blvd to the north, 4th Street NW to the east, 40th Ave. NW to the south, and John Laurie Blvd to the west. Many of the local roads offer easy access to the city.

Most Highwood housing consists of detached single-family homes for with a lot of variety in terms of styles and designs. Some Highwood homes are brand new, others are refurbished properties and others were built as far back as 1954. Semi-detached homes and multi-family houses are available as well and prices for homes range from affordable to very expensive.

Townhouses, condos, and apartment complexes can be found in Highwood as well. The owner occupancy rate in the community is around 70%.

The Highwood Community Association provides numerous amenities. Most home buyers here love the community’s most notable and unique attraction, the community swimming pool, which is considered one of the best in Calgary. Even young children and toddlers can enjoy a day of swimming. The wading pool for young children is heated and is equipped with 2 toddler slides. The 25-meter swimming pool is also furnished with youth and toddler slides, and the pool plays host to public swimming, swimming in lanes, and swimming lessons.

It’s a great place for families to spend a day since the picnic area is shaded and has more than enough tables for communal meals and snacks. You don’t even need to bring your own food because you can always just buy food here.

Aside from the excellent swimming facilities, home buyers in Highwood also enjoy a skating rink and various athletic fields at the community centre. As well, there is a pre-school program called Highwood Playschool for parents with youngsters. With a lot of activities to keep you busy, fantastic parks such as nearby Nose Hill Park and Confederation Park, and the famous Calgary Winter Club, this is a great neighbourhood for people on the go that enjoy an active lifestyle.
