The land on which North Haven lies was once used for cattle grazing. It used to be a part of the vast grazing land of the famous Pat Burns, who was one of the early ranchers in Calgary. There were two stages to the annexation of North Haven into the city of Calgary. The first stage involved the southern part of the neighborhood, which was absorbed in 1910. The northern part was annexed much later, in 1953.

The North Haven housing market was established as a single neighborhood in 1963. Real estate development in Lower North Haven came first, from 1962 to 1971. Upper North Haven began development in 1977.

This wonderfully idyllic community only has about 2,300 residents, evenly distributed amongst the different age brackets. The homes for sale here are mostly single-family homes but there are a number of semi-detached homes, townhouses and apartments and North Haven condos that are also available for purchase or for rent.

Shoppers living in North Haven will also have many amenities to choose from. Market Mall can be reached in just 15 minutes and it has numerous shops and stores for everyone. The Beddington Town Centre is also nearby, and on 64 Avenue residents can find Deerfoot Mall. Real estate in Nolan Hill is also conveniently close to Nose Hill Park, which is one of the largest urban parks in the whole country. It’s a wonderful place for families to spend relaxing afternoons since it has numerous trails snaking through its 11 square kilometer land. Be sure to bring along your young children, since many playgrounds can be found here as well.

If you need to commute to the downtown area regularly for work you’ll find it convenient with the University, Banff Trail and Brentwood LRT stations all within a 5-kilometer radius.

Inside the borders of the community, the North Haven Community Association handles many of the organized recreational programs. It offers sports and fitness programs and also maintains the community skating rink.
