The West Dover neighbourhood forms the greater Dover residential area together with Dover Glen and Dover proper. It was named after the famous alderman and environmentalist Mary Dover. The area where the three communities now lie became a part of the City of Calgary in 1961. Its recognition as a residential neighbourhood came over a decade later.
