Real estate in the Forest Heights neighbourhood has been settled since the beginning of the 20th century. The development of the community began much later however, in 1959. Two years later, in 1961, Forest Heights officially became part of the City of Calgary.

It is home to Marlborough Mall, which offers a variety of shops and professional services, plus large stores like Walmart and Home Depot. Forest Heights is a part of the Forest Heights Community Association, which also offers services for the nearby communities of Fonda, Forest Lawn and Marlborough.

The local community association has plenty of facilities, programs and events for children, adults and seniors residing in Forest Heights. Some of the most popular activities offered here include hockey, baseball and skating. Bingo games are organized on a weekly basis and are enjoyed by many home owners, while the jellybean dances are extremely popular with the local children. The annual Stampede Breakfast is another major event hosted by the community association. The association has plans for building new facilities that will include a garage area, a skate snack and change rooms.

Home buyers in Forest Heights will find schools for the youngest students residing in the neighbourhood include Patrick Airlie Elementary and Keeler Elementary. Forest Lawn Senior High is the public high school that serves the local area. The Catholic Trinity Elementary and Father Lacombe High schools are also within easy reach.
