Annexed in 1910, Tuxedo Park is a relatively old community. Established in 1929 as a neighbourhood, Tuxedo Park real estate has retained most of its single-family detached homes, many of which have been scheduled for reconstruction. Several schools and churches in Tuxedo Park are considered historic areas, including the neighbourhood’s first-ever home — a 3-storey farmhouse.

Approximately 51% of the Tuxedo Park homes are apartments or condominium units with 53% of the housing as rentals. As well, older single-family detached homes pepper Tuxedo Park’s land area of 1.3 square kilometres and there are always ongoing plans for future infill redevelopment.

Tuxedo Park’s boundaries include Edmonton Trail to the east, 2 Street to the west, 32 Avenue to the north, and the Trans-Canada Highway/16 Avenue to the south. Due to Tuxedo Park’s prime location, the downtown centre is easily accessible and is only 3 km away. There’s no need to rush the daily commute to work, for errands and for other activities.

The Bow River, which is just a 15-minute jog or walk from the centre of Tuxedo Park, provides a wide range of activities and amenities all year round. Residents can access a full range of services on Edmonton Trail, 16 Avenue NW, Centre Street, and 2 Avenue NE. The nearby golf courses beckon home buyers regardless of whether they are novices or pros at the sport.

The many amenities available for Tuxedo Park are the reason why many families want to buy a home in this neighbourhood. Tuxedo Park’s community centre, located in the midst of the community’s central park, spans a length of two city blocks with playground equipment throughout the park and an ice skating rink. The Tuxedo Park Community Association organizes special events yearly including Canada Day celebrations with a buffet, band music, an appearance by prominent citizens, craft exhibits and a parade that features fire trucks and police cars.

The association hosts the annual “Breakfast with Santa” for the children that live here and the yearly Oktoberfest. Unique to the Tuxedo Park community is its facility for former street children called “Exit Shelter,” which is run by Woods Homes. Confederation Park is near enough to call home while other recreational activities for residents include shopping, cycling and jogging along community pathways.

Families who purchase a property in Tuxedo Park have a variety of schools to choose from. They include Park Elementary, Buchanan, Rosemont and Mount View for elementary students while junior high students can attend Georges P. Vanier and Balmoral schools. High schools in the area include Crescent Height, James Fowler, and Balmoral while separate board schools include St. Paul Elementary School. As well, Tuxedo Park has an ESL school for adults located on 130 28 Avenue NE.
