The City of Calgary annexed Parkdale back in 1910, but it was only after the Second World War in 1948 that Parkdale was established and developed. At the time, it was considered an outer city neighborhood, but the city’s never-ending expansion inevitably transformed it into an inner city community with numerous shops and malls in close proximity.

Aside from the 1910 farm ranch house, which used to belong to a ranching pioneer, the bulk of the real estate market in Parkdale features distinctly post-WWII housing. As time goes by, however, many homes are being replaced with new ones. Many single-family detached Parkdale homes are being renovated as a result of the interest in the housing market and condos and townhouses have also been constructed to accommodate new families and professionals.

Owners of Parkdale real estate know that they only need to drive or walk a few minutes to find what they need. If you are looking for an active neighbourhood where you can walk to get what you need, this is a fantastic place to live. Some people choose to settle here just so they can have fast access to the farmer’s market!

The entertainment centre in Parkdale is on Parkdale Crescent, where locally-owned shops, amenities and eateries can be found. Home buyers can also visit the Louise Riley Library and the Parkdale Farmers Market for a good book and fresh food right from the farm.

The University Heights strip mall is right beside Parkdale and it has more than two dozen shops for the convenience of those living in Parkdale. A 5-minute drive along the Trans-Canada takes you to Home Depot and North Hill Mall, where there are even more choices. If you turn west onto Shaganappi Trail North it will lead you to the famous Market Mall in Calgary. Even the Jubilee Auditorium is just a short drive away.

The Parkdale Community Association provides a skating rink that residents can use, and they also sponsor various recreational and social activities. A “Neighbourhood Activity Centre” is in the works as well.

The Parkdale Elementary School is right inside the community, and the University of Calgary, SAIT Polytechnic, and the Alberta College of Art & Design are just 5 minutes away.
