The area of the Meadowlark Park real estate market, which takes its name from the Meadowlark bird, was first annexed to the city in 1950 while real estate development began in 1955. In 1960, work began on a shopping mall. This was the original Chinook Centre. Later, a competing shopping complex was opened beside the original and the two eventually merged to become one. As the years went by, the Chinook Centre has grown to become the biggest enclosed shopping mall in all of Canada, and boasts over 250 stores inside its doors.

All Meadowlark Park homes are situated on the western half of the area, with the Chinook Centre encompassing the entirety of the eastern half. The homes themselves form an almost half moon shape since they have been built around a centrally-located public park. There are approximately 600 residents living in Meadowlark Park and the majority live in single-family detached homes. The rental market makes up less than 15% of all the homes in the area but you can still find a number of apartments and condominiums for sale.

Without question, the Chinook Centre is one of Meadowlark Park’s biggest selling points and amenities for potential home buyers. Residents are treated to Calgary’s largest indoor shopping mall right on their doorsteps, meaning they never have to travel far to pick up whatever it is that they might need or want. The centre’s popularity has also benefitted residents of Meadowlark Park in another way; the area is particularly well-served by public transportation.

If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life you can always escape to nearby Heritage Park, the Glenmore Reservoir or any of the walking or hiking trails that are dotted around the surrounding area in Meadowview Park.
