The land on which Mayfair real estate sits was originally annexed to the city of Calgary in 1956. Real estate development commenced in 1957. Thanks to Calgary’s aggressive urbanization program of the 50’s and 60’s, Mayfair developed quickly, and thanks to its proximity to the Glenmore Reservoir and Heritage Park, it was immediately considered one of Calgary’s more desirable developments. This in turn led to many of the houses built on the sight being developed with a more affluent homeowner in mind.

A small neighbourhood with a population of no more than 500, Mayfair homes are considered reasonably exclusive. Most of the homes for sale in Mayfair live in single-family detached residences, with some of these properties having a high price tag. You can also run across a small number of apartments and townhomes available in the area, although these are considerably outnumbered by larger residences. None the less, these smaller properties afford many the luxury of being able to afford a home in the quaint, picturesque area. There is no discernible predominant age bracket of resident in Mayfair, with residents ranging from young to not so young in equal measure.

Mayfair is somewhat of an outdoor enthusiast’s dream. It is surrounded by natural beauty and outdoor amenities that provide home buyers in Mayfair with a wealth of options to choose from. Should you choose to make Mayfair your home, the Elbow River, the Glenmore Reservoir, Glenmore Athletic Park and the Weaselhead Flats will be all right on your doorstep. This only adds to the attraction of what is already an incredibly desirably area.

Keen shoppers are also well provided for with the ever-popular Chinook Mall located just a short hop away. Here shoppers can enjoy a wide range of stores and restaurants.

There are numerous recreational opportunities available for people of all ages. The Mayfair Bel-Aire Community Association offers an interesting youth justice program along with recreational facilities such as an outdoor skating rink, sports and playing fields along with tennis courts.

For families buying a home in Mayfair, there are a number of schools in close proximity to Mayfair, making the area popular for families with young children. Of these schools, Chinook Park School, Haysboro School, St. Augustine School, Henry Wise Wood High School and Central Memorial High School are all particularly popular, although there are many others in the list.
