The Hillhurst housing market forms one of the oldest communities in Calgary, as homesteads were established here as early as the 1880’s. A homesteader named McHugh established his own place in 1883 and this area is the modern Hillhurst that we see today. The location of his home is now a playground. A man named Riley acquired the land and then sold it to the city in 1904. He also donated a 20-acre plot of land, which later became a park named after him. As well, he donated a stone structure and its location is now the modern-day St. Barnabas Church.

In the early days, much of Hillhurst was a swamp-like region. It was then formally established in 1914, and afterwards the dirt trails were transformed to paved roads and the streets were lined with trees.

Today the exquisite Hillhurst housing market is valued for its distinct atmosphere and the luxury housing options that are quite numerous. As a potential homeowner you won’t have a problem finding a great place to call home. The community has about 3,500 homes, and virtually every one of them is ideal for single-family occupancy. The Hillhurst homes for sale range from historic houses to the more recently constructed modern homes, while condo properties are available as well. Mature trees line the streets and can be found in various yards in the neighborhood.

Nearby parks and amenities include Riley Park, Confederation Park, and Princes Island Park, while residents can take a stroll along the Bow River pathway. Other shopping options include the nearby Home Depot and the North Hill Mall.
