Garrison Woods real estate occupies a site that was originally a Canadian Forces Base, first established with the opening of Currie Barracks in 1933. Garrison Woods is part of the Marda Loop Communities Association, which has a variety of resources available for its residents including an outdoor pool, tennis courts and two skating rinks. These outdoor rinks magically transform into beach volleyball courts in the warmer months.

Families that purchase a home in Garrison Green will find that there are two schools located in Altadore, with a host of others being easily accessible. The schools in the area include Dr. Oakley School for children with learning disabilities and Altadore Elementary School. Only slightly further afield, the Mount Royal Junior High School and Chinook College are popular amongst Garrison Woods students.
