From its humble beginnings in 1885, the housing market of Eau Claire has steadily grown over time. Today, the population is closing in on 2,000, and it has become one of the most popular and sought-after areas of Calgary in which to live.

Eau Claire takes its name from an old sawmill that was originally moved from the city of Eau Claire in Wisconsin. Its location was not one of chance. The banks of the Bow River were chosen because of the direct access they provided to natural fallen timber which was perfect for the sawmill. As a result, real estate development began in the area around the sawmill owned by the Eau Claire Lumber Company.

The homes for sale in Eau Claire are predominantly condominiums, apartments and townhouses units. The condominiums are mostly high-end luxury units, ranging from one-bedroom homes to exquisite penthouses. New buildings are currently ongoing and planned, and these will mostly consist of further mid- to high-rise condominium blocks.

As a result of its fortuitous location, many of Eau Claire’s high-rise apartments and condominiums for sale offer stunning views of the city and of the natural attractions surrounding the area, including the Bow River.

The Eau Claire Market has long been the centre of Eau Claire and one of the reasons home buyers love the Eau Claire neighbourhood. This market is home to all kinds of shops, outlets and restaurants with many unique stores amongst them. The market is currently undergoing a redevelopment plan during which it intends to revamp the mall for the benefit of its customers. Even as this work gets underway, however, it’s business as usual for the various shops and restaurants.

Those looking for outdoor amenities need look no further than Prince’s Island Park. A wonderfully-utilized park that offers picnic areas, hiking trails, flower gardens, outdoor skating, a river café and much more, the Prince’s Island Park is also home to many events and festivals throughout the year. The park is certainly one of the things that makes living in Eau Claire so attractive.

Similarly, downtown Calgary offers many further amenities such as restaurants and shops to complement those available within Eau Claire. In terms of location, amenities and community spirit, it’s not hard to see why Eau Claire is so popular. Several Downtown CTrain stations are also nearby.

The Eau Claire Community Association offers various social and recreational activities for all ages.

Although Eau Claire has no schools within the community border, families looking to purchase a home in Eau Claire will be glad to know that there are several school options that are merely minutes away.
