The Altadore housing market started way back in the 1920’s, but the area was mostly established during the 1950’s. To this day, the meaning of “Altadore” is still uncertain and still debatable. The name may be linked to a mansion in County Wicklow, Ireland or it may have been a blended word using “Alta” from “Alberta” and “Dore,” which roughly translates from French to mean “of gold”.

Altadore was named one of the best Calgary communities in 2010 due to its fantastic location close to River Park and Marda Loop. The Calgary Farmer’s Market can also be found nearby in Currie Barracks. You’ll love the fresh, local produce, dairy and meat products that simply can’t be compared to supermarket food.

Altadore is part of the Marda Loop Community Association, which has a variety of deluxe resources available for its residents, including an outdoor pool, tennis courts, and two skating rinks. These outdoor rinks magically transform into beach volleyball courts in the warmer months.
